Our 2019 meet marks the second annual Women’s Barbell Classic. The WBC is a bench press and deadlift meet for women of all strength backgrounds. Our first meet was home to 80 powerlifters, CrossFitters, and various strength training females and we are proud to say that our 2019 meet filled 120 spots in just five days. It’s clear that our community is eager and ready to continue the growth of this movement.
Our intention is not only to lift weight but to lift women up wholeheartedly to unleash their power within and harness the connected energy in our collective to give back to the underserved women in our community.
The primary beneficiary of the 2019 event is the Young Women’s Resource Center. The YWRC’s mission is to embrace and inspire girls and young women to become strong, self-confident, and successful. Their vision is for all girls and young women in their community to realize their full potential.
The Young Women’s Resource Center is a non-profit organization that supports, educates, and advocated for girls and young women ages 10-21 in the Greater Des Moines area. They offer small groups and individual support focused on self-esteem, healthy relationships and reproductive health. Young moms receive additional support focused on pregnancy and childbirth, parenting skills and understanding the importance of education.
The Women’s Barbell Classic’s values parallel those of the Young Women’s Resource Center and shares the same vision for the women within our community and we are beyond excited to support their efforts.
